A cathedral of pale grey stone stands in shadow at the top of a wide stairway. Above, the ornate carvings of the building pale to insignificance beneath the spiralling city which shines overhead. There is a large tree with many thick branches up in the city, its trunk the same sun-drenched grey as the city itself, and its leaves a scattering of plae gold. A circular chamber, where a shard of Grace sits at the heart of concentric circles of mosaic, beneath a stylised statue of a pair of robed figures wrapped in a spiralling horn. Ceramic pots and candles scatter the floor, and a large spiral staircase with a balustrade leads around the edge of the room. Beyond the mosaic circles, a small arched doorway leads out into the city. A view across the pale city, towards a series of terraced gardens of grey trees with golden leaves. An elevated pathway leads from left to right, rising up a long processional staircase deeper in the city, large stone archways supporting the path. The sky beyond is full of vast grey-stone pillars supporting the higher spirals, but many of them taper off in mid-air, as if held up by some higher power. A semi-circular archway leads to a small shrine, with a statue of a many-horned figure on its knees and a thick yellow-grey tree trunk whose bark is knotted and whorled in shapes that resemble bodies trapped beneath the surface. A wisp of purple light rises from the statue's lap. A plaza in the city gardens, where trees reach out with thickened branches and thin golden foliage. A pathway leads onwards, past spiral-pattern stone columns spaced at regular intervals. To the left, the gardens drop away to reveal higher spiralling pathways and their unearthly dangling pillars against a sky of greenish-blue and pale gold. The black-and-gold bulk of the Scadutree rises into a green-gold sky, above a large domed cathedral of pale stone. Golden foliage creeps in from the edges of the scene. Looking up through the spiralling city of Enir-Ilim. An arched viaduct supports a ceremonial staircase which leads up to a large central pillar, wrapped in a vast carved spiral motif. High above, pillars descend from the heights, and in the distance more rising viaducts reach into the sky. The whole city is a pale grey monochrome, washed with wan golden light. An arched corridor of grey stone, terminating in an ornately-decorated wall with three rows of carved figures, weathered by time. A pair of golden boxes topped with burning candles sit amongst a variety of other ceremonial-looking objects, and two horned candlesticks are stood on the floor in front of the display. The floor is patterned with white, black and pink mosaic tiles, and is lit by a beam of sunlight from the left. A long flight of processional stairs leads downwards, to where a decorative tower of grey stone stands atop six spiralling pillars. Around the tower, spindly trees spread their golden foliage, and beyond, a domed cathedral sits on the skyline. A pair of heavy dark-grey iron doors, parted to reveal a golden cross-and-sickle shining from the gloom within. The doors are cast with many rows of figures in relief, but the details of the figures have been eroded by time. A golden cross-and-sickle shines from a circular mosaic at the centre of the room. Heavy spiralling pillars rise out of sight, and a wide spiral staircase runs around the edge of the room, ascending to arched windows high above. A view from the rooftops of Enir-Ilim, out towards the Scadutree standing bold against the morning light. The Shadow Keep and a low-lying forest emerges from a thick band of cloud far below. In the immediate foreground, a pillar rises from a tiled rooftop beside a stone carving of a tangle of human limbs. The city of Enir-Ilim hanging in a green-gold sky. The lower half is a row of buildings running beneath an ornate balustrade, and regularly-spaced pillars hang like stalactites from a dark roof far above. A curving stairway can be seen suspended in the background, held up by pillars which dissolve into stone carvings of human bodies at their lowest point. The red-tiled rooftops of the pale grey city, leading the eye towards the Scadutree in the distance. In the foreground, a cluster of stone carvings like misshapen bodies jut from a spiralling pillar, and fine white ash cakes the tiles just below. In the mid-ground, the sloping rooftops give way to other shapes, including a spire and an octagonal domed building. A rising facade of pale grey stone against a yellowed sky. There are so many different textures of stone: spiralled columns, archways with horn motifs, clusters of carved corpses erupting from the stonework, and larger, more abstract figures and winged creatures carved in smooth flowing motion. There are occasional pops of pale pink where the roof tiles show, though the larger patches are mostly covered in fine grey ash. To the left, the facade dips away to reveal a series of hanging pillars, like ornate stalactites. A view over the grey city of Enir-Ilim, its tree-dense gardens and processional stairways, above its domed cathedral, and out towards a jagged mountaintop emerging from a sea of white clouds. A second band of cloud hangs high above, and a stripe of grey-green sky between the two. A tall interior hallway, neatly paved with square blocks. All the walls are inlaid with narrow arch patterns with carved symbols within. There are two identical statues flanking the hall, of two robed figures wrapped in a spiralling horn, and around there feet are various jars and amphorae. A large octagonal chamber in Enir-Ilim, with spiralling columns in each corner of the room, and a pair of golden-leaved trees flanking an archway leading to a wide set of stairs. There are concentric circle patterns inlaid into the floor, and a bright stone shines from atop a rumpled carpet in the centre of the room. The walls are decorated with hanging banners and storage shelves, and an altar-like structure with horned candlesticks and stone tablets carrying a single carved figure, as if a portable shrine. A dark chamber in Enir-Ilim, where a large tent-like structure of gleaming metal supports a circular lift. Around the edges of the lift are extra-thick spiralling pillars, lit with wan golden light from hanging torches in gleaming wire sconces, and above the contraption a series of swooping banners recall the spectral veils outside. A close-up of a large grey-stone column atop a red-tiled domed building. The lower part is octagonal and ornately fashioned into arches and symbols, with horned motifs; the upper part becomes three round pillars with spiralling patterns. To the right is another column with multiple layers, each containing a row of carved humanoid figures, and above that a cluster of dangling columns from the stonework above, each terminating in a blunt point. The sky is full of veils cast orange by the sunsert. A peaceful octagonal chamber at the top of one of Enir-Ilim's towers. Each wall has three arched windows, and the sky beyond is filled with pink-orange clouds. The evening sunlight shines in gently from the left, drawing attention to the crisp concentric circles of the mosaiced floor. There are a few jars beside a staircase railing leading down, but otherwise the room is empty. A dark chamber shortly after sunset, filled with objects of ritual significance. The floor is decorated with concentric circles of mosaics, and a corpse with a flaming head sits crossed-legged on a ragged carpet, facing an altar covered with a faded cloth and lit by white candles. Behind the altar are two rows of carved effigies of venerated people, each carved to a different size and arrayed so the taller figures are most central in each group. There are ornate candlesticks and small metal arks, stone pillars topped with horned candelabra, and various finely-crafted jars and pots scattered around the altar. A wide spiral staircase of grey stone and thick spiralling columns, leading up past a pair of arched windows. The evening sun is shining through, painting the left-hand wall in glorious light. A golden sconce hangs from a fixing at the top of the current set of stairs, gleaming in the light, and the stairs continue round to the right. A view across upper Enir-Ilim, where stalactite-like columns descend from the top-most layer above, and vast pillars with spiral carvings hold up the roof. The sky is filled with yellow clouds, and a stripe of greyish-green sky can be seen below. A ceremonial garden on the way up to the most sacred places in the city. An evenly-spaced row of golden trees grows along the left hand side, interspersed with statues of lions, and to the right, the path curves round to the foot of a long flight of stairs up to an octagonal domed building beneath the hanging pillars above. Beyond, the buildings grow ever-more magnificent, with heavy porticoes of grey stone and multi-tiered domes. A shard of Grace shining at the centre of a concentric circle mosaic, surrounded by arcs of light. The room is dim aside from a shaft of light coming from the left, and a purple wisp sits at the foot of a three-tiered grey stone altar at the far side of the room. The pillars in each corner of the room are carved in a diamond pattern, and low sets of stairs lead up into alcoves in each direction. A warrior in a fur cloak and a metal helmet stands at the centre of a large audience chamber. The floor is piled deep in pale grey ash, forming small dunes. An arch leads onwards behind her, and two large spiralling pillars are flanked with long draping curtains of grey cloth and gold trimmings. To either side, rows of small carvings of figures with bowed heads line the walls, above candlesticks and horned ritual ephemera. A view of a large audience chamber from the entranceway. The floor is awash with grey ash, forming dunes beneath a single shaft of bright light from an oculus in the domed ceiling above; the dome is supported by a series of large spiralling pillars, each hung with spiralling curtains of grey cloth with gold trimmings. The knight in a white fur cloak and a golden helm lies propped up against a wall, dying. A wisp of white light - fading to purple as it rises - hovers above her legs. The floor is paved with square grey tiles, and behind her are four stripes of mosaic in red and white. An ashen battlefield atop the pale city. The ground is ash and bones, and a low stone railing obscured by mist gives way to an epic view of the black-and-gold Scadutree and its veils. The sky beyond is yellow cloud around the obscured sun, dipping into bruise-green as the cloud cover recedes. A spiralling tower of grey stone cuts vertically across the view, beside a small domed tower topped in red terracotta. An ashen battlefield atop the city, where a single shard of Grace shines from broken paving beneath a yellow sky. A broken stone railing topped with robed statues curves around to the right, to a vast throne of ash and bone, eroded stairs leading up to a cleft between two towers thronged with stone bodies hanging like ivy. The top of the towers is a crescent, throning the bright sun as it fails to fully pierce the cloud. Gille the Confessor, wearing her black confessor's cloak once more - and with Miquella's golden mark shining above her brow - faces the demigod's high throne of ash and bone. She raises one arm, beseeching, fingertips outstretched. Above, the uncaring sky roils in yellow cloud. Gille the Confessor stands before Miquella's throne, her sword and shield at the ready, and with Miquella's rune a crescent above her golden circlet. The two pillars of the throne loom against a dark yellow sky, the stone bodies that clamber up the stonework looking disturbingly like tortured souls so close up. The rising sun shines golden through the cleft at the heart of the throne, blazing down on her and casting bright godrays down over her shoulders. Deep below the cerulean coast, in a purple-drenched chamber we've visited before, Saint Trina lies dead on the floor. Her vivid purple hair flows outwards from her outstretched arm, and her purple robes stand like a poisonous flower in her wake. A glorious wisp of white and gold rises from her corpse. Gille kneels before Saint Trina's remnants in a cavern deep below the earth, with a vivid purple flower in her hair. She clasps one gauntleted fist to her heart and reaches out with the other, as if seeking forgiveness. A view from above, as Gille kneels with a flower in her hair, reaching out to Saint Trina's discarded purple robes. Trina herself lies on the cold ground below, her arms folded beneath her head in a resemblance of the slumber she personifies. A close-up of Saint Trina, the discarded half of Kind Miquella, in death. Her face is child-like, partially obscured in flowing waves of vivid purple hair, and her flesh is also cast in shades of pale purple. Her arms are spread above her head, as is she has merely succumbed once more to slumber. To the right, the plant-like robes in which she slept until now still stand rooted to the ground.
