At the end of the 1800s, the grounds of Dewstow House in Monmouthshire were transformed into a fascinating array of gardens and artificial grottoes, which then vanished entirely when the land was reverted to pasture during the Second World War.
Undocumented, lost to time, the gardens were rediscovered and excavated at the beginning of this century, and now once again form a captivating, surprising landscape. When we learned they were due to close at the end of September 2024, due to the advancing age of the current owners, we had to go visit with my camera.
