Stolen, Sweetly
by Rob Haines
Leptis looms over his stolen hoard.
He plunges a chitinous appendage into the pile, and it emerges glistening with sweet, white powder.
The scent of sugar hangs in the air as he scrapes it across his mandibles, shivering with pleasure.
Once, when he was a dutiful member of the nest, it was he who snuck into the houses of the rich to carry off their saccharine wealth for the glory of his queen.
Now he runs the nest, and he has thieves a-plenty.
